OPPO has been very busy this year, with research revealing that the company surpassed Apple as the second-largest phone manufacturer after Samsung in April and May 2021. The company has come out strong, yet again, with the launch of OPPO Reno6 5G. This is a great-looking phone, with a sleek body, and a flat back and display. The phone was released alongside the Pro models, and both share spectacular features, including a powerful battery and great camera qualities. Let’s take a deeper look into what to expect from OPPO Reno6 5G.

OPPO Reno6 5G Review: Price and Availability

The OPPO Reno6 5G was released to different countries on varying schedules. In India, the phone was released in July, priced at Rs 29,990 (around $408). This is a mid-range phone with so much to offer those looking for advanced features at an affordable price.

The phone is available in a single configuration with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage.

OPPO Reno6 5G Review: Design and Build Quality

OPPO Reno6 5G is well designed with a flat-edged display encapsulated in a matte finished metal frame. Most people will appreciate the flat edge, which is ergonomically designed for good grip. It has added Reno Glow design, a nice touch that gives the phone a premium feel. Reno Glow technology changes the phone’s color as light falls on it. The phone comes in two color options: Aurora and Stellar Black.

The rear panel, although with a huge camera bump, is absolutely fingerprint-resistant. On the sides, you get flushed volume keys on the left and the power key, and two antenna bands on the right. A dual-SIM tray is placed beside the mic at the base, alongside a Type-C port, a loudspeaker, and another antenna band.

The phone doesn’t come with a headphone jack, neither do you get stereo speakers.

OPPO Reno6 5G Review: Display

OPPO Reno6 5G comes with a 6.5-inch FHD (2400 x 10080p), AMOLED LED screen, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 shield. The display supports a 90Hz refresh rate and has a pixel density of 410 PPI, offering up to 800nits brightness. This makes it good enough to use the phone outside on a bright sunny day without struggling.

The high-resolution screen supports HDR10, HLG, and HD streaming on DRM-protected OTT platforms. Users get the SGS Eye Care mode to help filter out blue light emissions. You also get an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is quick to respond.

OPPO Reno6 5G Review: Performance and Software

The company says Oppo Reno6 5G is the first smartphone in India to sport the MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC, with two Cortex A78 prime cores (running at speeds of up to 2.4Ghz) and six Cortex A55 efficiency cores (clocked at 2.0GHz).

The chipset is backed by a Mali-G68 MC4 graphics engine, 8GB RAM of LPDDR4x RAM (with VRAM support of up to 5GB) to support the chipset, and 128GB of storage, which unfortunately isn’t expandable.

The option to increase virtual RAM by up to 5GB means you can boost your RAM to up to 12GB, which is great for those who like to play games on their phones.

For an average user, these specs will handle most of your everyday tasks without lagging, and it won’t overheat under heavy-duty tasks, like streaming videos and using the camera. Gamers will like the Z-axis linear motor that vibrates in sync with playing conditions.

The Oppo Reno6 5G runs on Android 11 ColorOS 11.3, which comes preloaded with lots of apps that take up a total of 24GB of the 128GB available. Although you can uninstall most of the bloatware anyway.

OPPO Reno6 5G Review: Camera

OPPO Reno6 5G doesn’t disappoint when it comes to photography and videography. It features a triple camera setup, with a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. At the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera that captures stunning images, day or night.

The Color Temperature Sensor ensures greater color accuracy, and its Flash Snapshot feature automatically focuses the moment you activate the camera, so you don’t miss a single moment.

The camera also comes with AI Palette that recreates color tones and lighting from images and applies them to yours. The Night mode works pretty well, displaying the true colors of images.

The Reno6 5G shines when it comes to videography with some cool features like the Bokeh Flare Portrait Video, which turns background lights into dreamy circles that highlight your subjects.

The AI Highlight Video combines Live HDR and Ultra Night Video technology to automatically adjust the natural light and give you the best pictures in low light.

The Portrait Beautification Video lets you remove the dark spots or aging lines from your face and neck for sharp-looking social media video clips.

Battery Life

The Reno6 5G ships with a 4300mAh battery, which on normal use, can last a whole day. You can find more battery options like Optimized battery use, Super power-saving mode, and Optimized Night Charging, to help you get more out of your phone.

The battery supports a 65W charger, which is included in the package, that can charge the phone from zero to 100 percent in under 30 minutes.

Closing Remarks

The OPPO Reno6 5G is an exceptional mid-range phone that has plenty to offer. It has an impressive design, and the build quality is good. The processor, while not as powerful, offers stellar performance on everyday tasks.
